On July 7, 1998, two commercial Tubsat-N microsatellites were launched via the Shtil launch vehicle into low earth orbit from Project 667BRDM submarine Novomoskovsk.
It was the first launch of satellites into low earth orbit in the history of space exploration with the launch of a rocket from a submerged submarine.
