NRP Centauro, part of the mission of Support to the Supervision of Maritime Spaces and Maritime Operational Training of the Coast Guard of São Tomé and Príncipe, crossed the equator on July 13, having been the first Speed Inspection Motorboat in the service of the Portuguese Navy to do so.
For many sailors have had diverse traditions in the sea, with the passage in the equator being one of the most striking.
This moment is a tradition rooted in several navies, symbolizing the bravery of those who, to sail, pass between hemispheres. The passage between the Northern and Southern hemisphere, crossing the equator line is marked by the painting, red, of the horn at the bow of the ship by the ship’s commander and the most modern square.
