The Regional Command of the Indonesian Navy (Kodaeral) V released the departure of two Chinese Navy People’s Liberation Army (PLA Navy) Warships, namely Kunlun Shan-988 and Qi Jiguang-83, at North Jamrud Pier, Tanjung Perak Port, Surabaya, Thursday (6/8/2026).
The activity that took place marked the end of the PLA Navy Courtesy Call series in Surabaya. Present at the event represented Kodaeral V Marine Colonel (P) Arif Priwadi Wibowo, M.Tr.Opsla., as the Head of the V Regional Command and Marine Lieutenant Colonel (T) Adiyus Kurniazain, S.T., M.Pd., CIQar. Meanwhile, from the Chinese side, Zhao Bin, Deputy Attaché of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Indonesia, and representatives of the Prosperous Harmonious Relations Facilities Foundation (SHHS) were present.
The release procession began with the placement of the Merplug Kodaeral V Team at the North Jamrud Pier. Furthermore, the Qi Jiguang-83 ship first carried out the release of the rope, the honor of the troops, and the tradition of the release accompanied by the Music Corps (Korsik) of Kodaeral V. A similar series was then carried out on the Kunlun Shan-988 ship, before the two ships departed from Tanjung Perak Port.
The Kunlun Shan-988 ship is an Amphibious Transport Dock (LPD) type ship with a length of 210 meters and a weight of about 25,000 tons. The ship carried 172 crew members, 250 cadets, and 25 cadet instructors. Meanwhile, the Qi Jiguang-83 is a 163.5-meter training ship with a weight of 9,000 tons that is manned by 110 personnel and carries 300 cadets and 45 instructors.
The presence of the two PLA Navy warships in Indonesia is expected to further strengthen the friendship and increase mutual trust between TNI Navy and PLA Navy soldiers. In addition, the visit is also a momentum to strengthen strategic dialogue in the field of maritime defense to support the creation of stability and security in the Asian regional region.
