On Monday, October 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., the tender “Mosel” returned to its home port of Kiel. The Kiel-based supply ship had been at sea for over six months.
Initially, the “Mosel” assumed the German contribution to NATO’s Standing Maritime Group 2 and simultaneously to the NATO support mission in the Aegean Sea. Later, the Kiel-based supply ship, together with the minehunter “Fulda,” was deployed ahead of schedule for a possible operation in the Strait of Hormuz.
The “Mosel” was relieved by the tender “Rhein,” while the crew of the minehunter “Fulda” was exchanged. Both vessels remain on standby for possible deployment in the Strait of Hormuz.
The commanding officer, Lieutenant Commander Armin Hansen, draws a positive conclusion: “Such long deployments, with constantly changing situations and a great deal of uncertainty, demand a lot from each and every individual. Added to this were quite challenging climatic conditions. However, the tender ‘Mosel’, the support squadron, and the entire Navy have demonstrated that we are capable of quickly redeploying forces worldwide without significant lead time and under adverse conditions. We have shown that the government can rely on us. Being a part of this fills my crew and me with pride.”
