On 18 June, the ship anchored at Lynnhaven Roads, joining several sailing ships at anchor there. On the morning of June 19, the Parade of Sail began, which was attended by 37 sailboats of 16 nationalities, having docked in Freemason Harbour in the early afternoon.
The following day, a ceremony was held on board to impose decorations on two civilian elements of the Headquarters Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (HQ SACT), followed by a reception for 133 guests, which was attended by the Ambassador of Portugal in Washington, Francisco Duarte Lopes, the national liaison representative to HQ SACT, Colonel António Grilo, the Portuguese Attaché in Washington, Captain Silva Monginho, several members of the Portuguese military community and HQ SACT, as well as several ship commanders participating in Sail250.
Throughout its stay, the ship was open to visitors, having received more than 3300 people on board. There were also numerous activities with the participation of the ship, including Sail250 events, receptions on board other participating ships, the organization’s gala dinner, the football tournament and the parade of garrisons and cadets.
The ship left yesterday, June 23, for Baltimore, in the United States of America, and is scheduled to dock today, June 24, to remain part of Sail250.
The NRP Sagres is commanded by Commander José Eduardo de Sousa Luís and has a garrison of 107 military personnel and 35 cadets from the 2nd year of the Naval Academy and one cadet from the Romanian Navy.
