From 2009 to 2011, more than 200 piracy incidents occurred off the coast of Somalia and in the Gulf of Aden. Due to continuous efforts, it is currently at a low level.
However, poverty in Somalia, which is the root cause of piracy, has not been resolved yet, and there is still no change in the situation in which piracy must be dealt with.
In addition, the forces of various countries continue to conduct anti-piracy operations off the coast of Somalia and in the Gulf of Aden. It is important that we continue to contribute to the peace and stability of the international community based on our principles.
In light of this situation, we have created new anti-piracy guidelines and have decided to continue our anti-piracy operations for one year.
