Babcock Canada (Babcock), Prime Contractor of the Victoria In-Service Support Contract (VISSC), has awarded a six-year sub-contract extension to Seaspan Victoria Shipyards (Seaspan) to continue supporting Babcock on the VISSC. This extension will support Babcock’s delivery of the nation’s only industry-led submarine in-service support solution for the Royal Canadian Navy’s Victoria-class fleet.
This agreement follows the Government of Canada’s award of a six-year contract extension to Babcock earlier this year, which includes the potential to further extend the VISSC through to end-of-life of the Victoria-class submarines. Babcock’s continued leadership and delivery of the VISSC and submarine sustainment enterprise will enable uninterrupted, continuous service, as Canada transitions to its new fleet of submarines.
Through the VISSC, Babcock has been Canada’s submarine sustainment partner for over 18 years and has grown unparalleled engineering services and platform knowledge, developed a highly specialized workforce and robust Canadian supply chain, and established a sovereign industrial submarine sustainment capability. Babcock’s work has contributed over $3.2B in GDP impact to Canada, maintained more than 1,500 jobs annually, and has built a network of over 450 suppliers.
The work that Seaspan delivers to Babcock under the VISSC takes place at the Government of Canada owned Esquimalt Graving Dock in Victoria, B.C.
