The Hydrographic Institute of the Portuguese Navy carried out, from September 17th to 27th, in the Port of Vila do Porto, on the island of Santa Maria, in the Azores, its first hydrographic survey using exclusively an unmanned surface vehicle, the USV PLEIONE.
PLEIONE, equipped with a Multibeam Sounding System (MFS), allows for acquisition of high-resolution bathymetric data, contributing to the detailed characterization of the seabed.
The works are part of the Hydrographic Survey of the Vila do Porto Port basin, conducted within the scope of the contract signed between the Ports of the Azores,
SA, and the Hydrographic Institute.
Strengthening the hydrographic capacity of the Hydrographic Institute, in service of knowledge of the sea and of Portugal.
