After a cross-regional voyage from Italy to Indonesia, the warship previously named ITS Giuseppe Garibaldi has now officially become part of the Indonesian Navy’s strength through a series of reflagging from the Italian flag to the Indonesian flag. The event was led by Chief of Staff of the Italian Navy Admiral Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral TNI Dr. Muhammad Ali at Pier 107, Tanjung Priok Port, North Jakarta, Thursday (09/24/2026).
After officially changing the Red and White Flag, the series continued with the inauguration and inauguration of the Commander of the KRI Sriwijaya-100 led directly by the TNI Commander General TNI Agus Subiyanto. The procession became an important momentum that marked the change in the ship’s status as well as the transformation of its identity as part of the Indonesian Navy fleet. The ship that previously strengthened the Italian Navy now carries the name KRI Sriwijaya-100, with the Red and White Flag as a symbol of sovereignty and devotion to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
Previously, the ship had sailed for 25 days with a distance of approximately 6,870 nautical miles, crossing the Suez Canal, the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean. On the way to Indonesia, the ship also stopped in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka for logistical needs, refueling and technical support.
The presence of KRI Sriwijaya-100 will later function for Military Operations Other Than War (OMSP), especially in disaster management and humanitarian assistance and emphasizes the TNI’s progress in strengthening and modernizing the TNI AL’s Integrated Fleet Weapons System (SSAT), while also demonstrating Indonesia’s commitment to the defense and security of Indonesia’s maritime territory. This reflects Indonesia’s readiness to build maritime strength, while responding to future maritime security challenges.
