The Romanian Naval Forces’ EOD military divers, specialized in the fight against explosive devices, carried out a mission to neutralize an object that was endangering navigation in the Black Sea on Wednesday, December 3, at the request of the Coast Guard.
The soldiers of the 39th Diver Center moved to the maritime area estimated at 36 nautical miles east of Constanta, with the support of the MAI 1107 maritime surveillance ship from the Coast Guard. Following the analysis of the drifting object, the soldiers found that it was a Sea Baby type unmanned surface vehicle (maritime drone.) The intervention team received approval to neutralize the identified object, in accordance with the operational procedures in force, and around 1:00 p.m., the maritime drone was destroyed by controlled detonation.
Since the beginning of the proximity war, the Romanian Naval Forces have been permanently monitoring and supervising the maritime and fluvial area of responsibility, both with ships and aircraft from its own equipment, and in cooperation with the other categories of forces in the Romanian Army and with other states in the North Atlantic Alliance.
