More ammunition is on its way to the Armed Forces. These are mainly light torpedoes and torpedo tubes as well as various types of fine-caliber ammunition. Deliveries are expected to start next year.

The torpedoes come from Saab and are called Torpedo 47. They are a new generation of light torpedoes that are specially designed to operate in the Baltic Sea’s unique operational conditions, with shallow water and complex sea topography. Something that places high demands on the torpedo’s navigation and targeting capabilities. The value of the order is approximately SEK 1.3 billion.

The torpedoes are primarily intended for use by submarines and surface combat ships, but are also prepared to be used by helicopters.

In addition, a large amount of different types of fine-caliber ammunition will be produced for the Swedish Armed Forces by the suppliers Nammo Sweden AB and Norma. The first deliveries are expected to take place between 2026-2028.

The agreement that the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration has drawn up runs for ten years with a first call-off of three years, where the order value is approximately SEK 1.8 billion for Nammo and SEK 1.4 billion for Norma. If the Armed Forces’ needs change, the agreement also allows suppliers to change production and adapt it to the new conditions.

“We have a serious security policy situation and are working hard to strengthen our military units. The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration has done a very good job, and it is very gratifying that the agreements have been signed and that the ammunition can begin to be delivered next year,” says Johan Axelsson, Deputy Head of Operations Management at the Headquarters.
