All fleets and the Caspian Flotilla will be resubordinated directly to the commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, this work is being completed, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Tuesday.
“Work is being completed on the re-subordination of the fleets and the Caspian Flotilla directly to the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy. This will make it possible to more effectively manage the fleet and fleets, introduce unified approaches to planning the use and training of naval groups in modern conditions,” Shoigu said at a meeting of the board of the Russian Defense Ministry.
Currently, the Northern Fleet has the status of a military district, the rest (the Pacific, Black Sea and Baltic Fleets, as well as the Caspian Flotilla) are part of military districts.
