Japan Marine United Corporation held a launch ceremony September 17, at the Tsurumi Shipyard of its Yokohama Works (Tsurumi Ward, Yokohama City) for a transport vessel (2051) commissioned by the Ministry of Defense under the FY2024 plan. Prior to the launch, Mr. Yohei Wakabayashi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Defense, read the naming certificate, and the vessel was named “Akane.” Completion and delivery of the vessel are scheduled for March 2027.
This vessel is the first of a new class of transport vessels (MSV) designed to enable rapid and reliable transport to small-scale ports and remote islands; it is also equipped with beaching capabilities.
Leveraging the technology and experience gained through the construction of these transport vessels, the company remains committed to building high-value-added ships—including naval vessels that require advanced technical expertise—in the future.
