The NATO exercise Dynamic Messenger will be conducted in Finland in June. The exercise will test the use of marine unmanned systems in Finnish coastal conditions.

The exercise will take place in the sea area west of the Porkkala peninsula down to the height of Hanko. Ships are operated in the area between the archipelago and the territorial water border.

The exercise includes the protection of port areas and critical underwater infrastructure. The exercise areas are monitored at sea.

NATO’s Dynamic Messenger exercise package includes operational experiments within NATO’s area of responsibility. Operations in the shallow waters of the Finnish coast and archipelago contribute to systems suitable for the conditions in the Baltic Sea.

New technologies are a part of the Navy’s cooperation with NATO to develop naval defense.

“Unmanned systems have enormous potential and versatile uses. Intelligent and autonomous systems can be used to monitor areas and objects, freeing up valuable resources for other purposes,” says the Navy’s Chief of Operations, Commodore Marko Laaksonen.
