PT PAL Indonesia appreciates the quick response of the Indonesian Navy, especially the Koarmada II Exorta Ship Unit Element, KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai (GNR-332) in the evacuation process of a fishing boat from Probolinggo, KM Scania I in the Bali Sea. This success cannot be separated from the prime condition of KRI GNR-332 after undergoing maintenance and repairs at PT PAL Indonesia.

Marketing Director of PT PAL Indonesia, Wiyono Komodjojo, assessed that the success of KRI GNR-332 in this rescue mission proved that warships not only function as a means of national defense, but also have the ability to act quickly in providing assistance in emergency situations, such as rescuing KM Scania I which experienced technical damage in the middle of the ocean.

” We are sorry for the incident that befell the fishermen, as well as appreciation for the Indonesian Navy, with KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai-332, which some time ago completed maintenance and repair docking at PT PAL Indonesia, can return to optimal operations and successfully carry out this rescue mission, ” said Wiyono.

For information, previously on August 20, 2024, KRI GNR-332 underwent maintenance and repairs at PT PAL Indonesia. This maintenance and repair is part of the refurbishment program initiated by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.

Refurbishment of the PKR or Light Frigate ship with a length of 105 meters, includes rejuvenation of the ship’s hull, checking, maintenance of navigation and communication equipment , SEWACO to repair of the ship’s propulsion system. This process aims to ensure that the ship is always in prime condition in carrying out strategic missions, both domestically and internationally optimally.

Wiyono emphasized that PT PAL Indonesia as a strategic partner of the Indonesian Navy continues to be committed to providing warships that are not only reliable for military operations, but also flexible in responding to the needs of rescue and protection of maritime communities. He also hopes that the success of KRI GNR-332 in evacuating KM Scania I will further strengthen public trust in the capabilities of the domestic defense industry. “This momentum is also a trigger for PT PAL to continue to innovate in the maritime defense sector,” said Wiyono.

Citing a statement from the Navy Information Service (Dispenal), the evacuation of KM Scania I in the Bali Sea occurred when KRI GNR-332 was carrying out a sea crossing to the Jalayudha practical training location for the 70th Naval Academy (AAL) cadets. During the journey, KRI GNR-332 received a report about KM Scania I which had been drifting at sea for four days, since Monday (6/1).

” We immediately deployed personnel to help evacuate the fishing boat with 17 crew members. The team installed a towing rope and pulled the boat to safe waters 22 nautical miles away to Banyuwangi for further assistance ,” explained the Commander of KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai, Navy Colonel (P) Ahmad Ahsan.
