Holland is already in Den Helder, after being station ship in the Caribbean for 7 months. Before the patrol ship set sail for the Netherlands, it managed to thwart drug smugglers. The Navy intercepted nearly 1,400 kilograms of cocaine in 2 days.
The amount of narcotics seized has since been destroyed. A total of 4 suspects have been turned over to the U.S. Coast Guard and are being prosecuted in the United States.
Both drug seizures date back to April 13 and 14. The smugglers had the stuff aboard go-fasts. When they were spotted, Zr.Ms. Holland sent the U.S. Coast Guard helicopter on board. This just like 2 fast interceptor boats.
HNLMS Groningen has now relieved HNLMS Holland. The returned ship intercepted a total of 15,678 kilos of drugs.
