HNLMS Groningen has intercepted 241 kilos of contraband. The action took place on the night of 4-5 June near the Windward Islands. That was announced today. It is the patrol vessel’s second drug seizure since it operated in the Caribbean.
It involved about 241 kilos of illegal goods.
The Dutch navy ship came into action after it detected a suspicious vessel at sea. The chase was then initiated. This happened at very high speed. The suspects managed to escape, but threw their cargo overboard.
The packages were then fished out of the sea. It involved cocaine and a small amount of marijuana. The drugs have been handed over to the Caribbean Coast Guard on Sint Maarten. The party has since been destroyed. An investigation is ongoing.
