The Danish frigate Iver Huitfeldt docks April 4th at Naval Station Korsør after a mission in the Red Sea, where the frigate has ensured free and safe navigation for merchant ships and other traffic. During the mission, Iver Huitfeldt shot down four drones sent by the Houthi klllers.
With flags and smiles, the relatives stand today on the quayside ready to welcome those on board the frigate Iver Huitfeldt, who are returning home from a mission in the Red Sea.
The frigate has participated in the task of ensuring free and safe navigation for merchant ships and other vessels in the Red Sea in light of the Houthi movement’s illegal attacks on ships in the area. The frigate has been deployed in Operation Prosperity Guardian together with other countries in the international cooperation, Combined Maritime Forces, to protect international shipping traffic.
Shot down four drones
The relevance of sending the frigate off on the task was underlined when, during the deployment, the frigate shot down four drones sent by the Houthi movement. It happened on March 9, when the Houthi movement sent a total of 15 drones against ships in the area. All drones were shot down by warships in the area.
The frigate has been mandated for self-defense and extended self-defense, meaning that the frigate and its crew have been able to use force to protect themselves and nearby ships from attack.
The frigate set sail from Denmark on 29 January and from the start it was planned that the ship should return home today.
