On October 2, 2023, the Overseas Patrol Vessel (POM) Auguste Benebig docked for the first time on the new POM quay at the Noumea naval base.

In a context of growing threat to our maritime areas, the construction of the POM quay meets a priority of the 2019-2025 military programming law allowing the renewal and modernization of the capabilities and dedicated infrastructure of the armed forces in New Caledonia (FANC).

Due to its size, it allows the Noumea naval base to become a strategic support for partner navies and to multiply the specific support of warships.

The beginning of a major sequence of investment in New Caledonia, this brand new building of 130 meters long and 8 meters wide is the spearhead of the sovereignty policy led by France in New Caledonia aimed at strengthening its military base and capabilities in the Pacific.

From now on, the POM Auguste Benebig will be able to take over the facilities of this new quay, while waiting to be joined by the second POM destined for New Caledonia named Jean Tranape.
