The purpose is to strengthen the Danish Armed Forces’ capacity within maritime surveillance and intelligence gathering – especially in areas where there are currently limited possibilities for presence.
The units are powered by wind and solar energy and can operate continuously without crew on board. The contract has been signed and the units are expected to be operational from June 2025.
The test is part of a broader effort to investigate the use of unmanned maritime systems in the Danish Armed Forces. The test is being carried out in close collaboration between the Danish Armed Forces Drone Center, the Danish Defence Command, the Danish Ministry of Defence’s Materiel and Procurement Agency, the Danish Naval Command and the Danish Defence Innovation Unit.
