During this August 01 and 02, the General Service Patrol Boat “Sibbald” dependent on the Third Naval Zone carried out replenishment tasks of Sea Mayors of the western sector of the jurisdiction of the Beagle Naval District.
In the midst of difficult weather conditions with falling snow, winds of up to 40 knots (approximately 80 kilometers per hour) and temperatures below zero, the Unit with base port in Puerto Williams carried out replenishment tasks in the Mayor’s Offices of Mar “Corriente”, “Navarino”, “Timbales” and “Yamana”, delivering the necessary logistical support for these places. Its “ready to arrive” status allows the Unit to contribute to southern connectivity in isolated sectors.
“The capabilities of this Unit together with the commitment of its staff allowed us to successfully carry out each of our tasks entrusted by the Institution, thus contributing to southern connectivity in isolated sectors. The mission was accomplished gradually and at a good pace, regardless of the adverse weather conditions we have had during navigation,” said the Commander of the Unit, Lieutenant Commander Sebastián Villarroel.
In addition, children and adults were vaccinated against coronavirus, influenza and vaccines from the school program, as well as medical check-ups for the respective families that carry out sovereignty in these remote locations.
Operating in different tasks from the southernmost city in the world, the PSG “Sibbald” continuously performs connectivity and supply tasks to the Sea Mayors, in addition to carrying out maritime surveillance and control in the Beagle area, Maritime Search and Rescue operations, thus fulfilling the different mission areas of the Navy.
