Between November and April, the 2024/2025 Antarctic Commission (COMANTAR) will be held, with the aim of supporting scientific research, performing logistical support tasks, and ensuring security in Antarctic waters. The ATF-60 tugboat “Lientur” will play a prominent role in its first participation in this type of mission, accompanied by the OPV-83 Patrol Vessel “Marinero Fuentealba” and the AGB-46 Icebreaker “Almirante Viel,” forming an “Antarctic Trinomial.” The units will carry out various operations, such as cargo and personnel transport, fisheries monitoring, and maritime signaling.

This mission not only reinforces Chile’s commitment to the conservation and protection of the Antarctic ecosystem, but also fosters international collaboration, including joint activities with other nations. It will also provide logistical support to various scientific bases, ensuring the success of research on the Antarctic continent.
