Naval, air, and marine assets of the Chilean Navy are participating in UNITAS LXVII, a multinational exercise that brings together more than 5,300 personnel from 24 countries in Peru to conduct combined training in different operational scenarios.
The Chilean participation includes the OPV-84 Maritime Zone Patrol Vessel Cabo Odger, an HH-65 Dauphin helicopter and a contingent of Marines, whose members carry out different activities together with forces from the participating countries.
The Unit’s Commanding Officer, Commander Rodolfo Rodas, highlighted the institutional and operational value of this international deployment: “The participation of the OPV ‘Cabo Odger’ in the multinational exercise UNITAS 2026 represents an important opportunity to represent the Chilean Navy and our country on an international stage. This exercise allows us to strengthen, train, and share experiences with navies from different countries, increasing our capabilities to address, in a coordinated manner, the challenges and threats that currently exist in the maritime domain.”
Multinational training
The coordinated training between the Chilean Navy and the various participating countries encompasses demanding tactical maneuvers in surface, amphibious, cyber defense, and humanitarian assistance scenarios. Key activities include integration into the PHOTOEX naval training exercise in the waters off Callao, as well as participation in the Work-Up phase, aimed at refining the combined response to catastrophes and natural disasters in the region.
In addition to the above, the exercise allows for the sharing of procedures and experiences among the participating contingents, strengthening interoperability and generating knowledge that can later be incorporated into the training of the respective forces.
Cooperation and interoperability
UNITAS is one of the longest-running multinational naval exercises and allows forces from different countries to come together to conduct combined training and strengthen their ability to operate in a coordinated manner.
With this participation, the Chilean Navy, through the OPV-84 “Cabo Odger”, from the air and naval component and the Marine Corps, reaffirms its commitment to maritime security, consolidating interoperability and strengthening cooperation relations with friendly naval forces in the region.
