As part of the binational exercise Fraterno XXXIX, divers from the Argentine Navy’s Rescue Service (SISA) participated in a diving exercise at sea, aboard the Brazilian Navy’s submarine rescue ship Guillobel.
The activities took place around the Christ the Redeemer underwater park, off the coast of the city of Mar del Plata. First, a demonstration of the ship’s dynamic positioning capabilities was carried out and then the divers of the Argentine Navy, together with their Brazilian counterparts, were trained in diving tasks at a depth of 25 meters, using the divers’ own lowering and hoisting systems of Guillobel.
The combined training, of great importance, made it possible to unify procedures, techniques and the use of equipment from both Forces to carry out a common task.
“For this reason, that SISA divers, with their counterparts from Brazil, have had the opportunity to see, learn and work on board a ship that was designed to carry out diving operations at sea, is a highly positive experience for the professional development of the personnel,” explained the Chief of SISA, Frigate Captain Pablo Spinetta.
High complexity technical simulation at the Diving School
Once the ships arrived at the Mar del Plata Naval Base after the completion of the maritime phase of Fraterno XXXIX, SISA personnel and a crew of the MB “Guillobel” carried out joint deep diving training at the facilities of the Diving School (ESBU).
The technical exercise focused on deep diving procedures, standardization of descent and decompression protocols, safety techniques and emergency response within the ESBU diving simulator.
