Defence and the joint venture Reeves Icon and Hall have signed a contract to deliver major infrastructure works with the Solomon Islands Government, helping to support a secure and resilient region.
The joint venture includes construction of the environmentally sustainable Western Border Outpost on Shortland Island. The facility will be home to Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) personnel and accommodate Customs and Immigration Officials.
The Outpost will enhance Solomon Islands’ border security and maritime surveillance capability while promoting economic development and stability in the region.
The Western Border Outpost design will include environmentally sustainable features appropriate to regional conditions, enhance resilience and meet the functional needs of the Solomon Islands Government.
Reeves Icon and Hall will also deliver upgrades to the Hells Point Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) facility in Honiara. Hells Point is the home and training ground for the RSIPF’s EOD Unit. Upgrades will enable safer and more effective disposal and render safe activities in support of the RSIPF’s EOD capability growth.
Solomon Islands has a large concentration of unexploded ordnance from the Second World War. Australia is committed to working with our Pacific partners to protect communities from this tragic legacy of war.
The engagement of Reeves Icon and Hall as the head contractor for the delivery of these infrastructure projects is another major milestone in our security partnership with the Solomon Islands.
