“The crew of the frigate “Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov”, operating in the western part of the Atlantic Ocean, conducted an exercise on the use of hypersonic missile weapons by computer modeling,” the report said.
“In accordance with the training situation, the frigate Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov worked out the organization of a missile strike by a Zircon hypersonic missile on a sea target that simulates a conditional enemy ship and is located at a distance of more than 900 kilometers,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.
“In our version, the electronic launch, the work of the entire ship combat crew confirmed all the characteristics that were laid down in this complex, which they showed during preliminary tests and state tests,” frigate commander Igor Krokhmal said about Zircon in a video of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
“During the implementation of the training task, the crew of the frigate demonstrated high coherence of actions,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
“In February 2023, a number of joint exercises with the South African Navy and the Navy of the People’s Liberation Army of China are planned to be held near the coast of the Republic of South Africa,” the Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The frigate “Admiral Gorshkov” with hypersonic missiles “Zircon” went on January 4 on a campaign through the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, as well as the Mediterranean Sea. The ceremony of the ship’s entry into combat service was held under the leadership of Russian President Vladimir Putin via videoconference.
According to the Russian military, the Admiral Gorshkov is accompanied by a medium-sized sea tanker Kama on the voyage.

At the same time, a feature of the Zircon hypersonic missiles is the ability to reliably overcome any modern and promising air defense-missile defense systems,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
