The Indonesian Navy moved quickly to respond to the increase in activity of Mount Anak Krakatau. Through the ranks of the Lampung Lanal under the Fleet I Command (Koarmada I), THE INDONESIAN NAVY deployed elements of the KRI Lepu-861 warship to monitor the security situation of shipping navigation as well as alert Search and Rescue (SAR) personnel and logistical assistance for coastal communities around the waters of the Sunda Strait, Tuesday (08/09/2026).
The Commander of the Lampung Lanal (Danlanal) Lieutenant Colonel (P) Irianto Kurniawan coordinated with the Asops Danguspurla Koarmada I and the Commander of KRI Lepu-861 to carry out a direct review in the field before the ship docked at Panjang Port, Lampung.
From the results of visual observations of KRI Lepu-861 at a distance of 1.5 nautical miles from the location, it is reported that eruption conditions are still occurring, the mountain is covered with thick fog with visibility around the mountain area of approximately 3 nautical miles, wave heights are recorded at 0.5 – 1 meters with wind direction from south to north at a speed of 7-10 knots and the distribution of volcanic ash is still monitored up to a radius of 6 nautical miles so it is urged to be aware of ships passing through the Sunda Strait because potentially disrupting navigation paths.
The Indonesian Navy continues to monitor the development of the situation closely to ensure that shipping lanes remain safe while preparing rapid mitigation measures for coastal water communities. In addition, land synergy and fisherman safety education are not only in the waters, emergency response actions are also held on land collaboratively by personnel of Lanal Lampung, Lanal Banten, and Brigade 4 Marines/BS.
The measures that have been and are still being implemented to date include the distribution of masks, safety equipment, and swim vests to the community and fishermen’s representatives as well as providing appeals for safety at sea, coordination across agencies in an updated manner with BPBD, Basarnas and other related maritime agencies.
This emergency response action by the TNI Navy element is a tangible manifestation of the emphasis of the Chief of Naval Staff (Kasal) Admiral TNI Dr. Muhammad Ali as a form of TNI Navy’s preparedness in responding to emergency conditions that occur in Indonesian territory and is tangible evidence of the implementation of Military Operations Other than War (OMSP) and the presence of TNI Navy soldiers always brings benefits, provides solutions, and help overcome the difficulties of the community in their work area.
