The Industrial Services of the Navy (SIMA PERÚ SA) held the Baptism and Launching ceremony of the BAP “Chimbote” and the Putting into the Water of the BAP “Antofagasta” at its Callao Operations Center August 18, two important milestones that demonstrate the progress of the industrial, technological and operational capabilities that are being developed to strengthen the naval industry.
The ceremony was presided over by the President of the Republic, Keiko Fujimori, and was attended by the Minister of Defense, the Commander General of the Peruvian Navy, the General Manager of Sima Peru, high civil and military authorities; and companies linked to the naval industry.
The launching of the BAP “Antofagasta” represents a further step in the modernization of the Peruvian Navy’s operational capabilities. The refurbishment of this vessel is a highly complex technical project that restores an essential capability for the defense and surveillance of the national maritime domain and, at the same time, preserves and consolidates the specialized knowledge necessary to develop naval projects of this nature in the country.

als of the Peruvian Navy and SIMA PERÚ, who continue to develop skills to take on increasingly demanding and sophisticated projects with a view to achieving regional leadership.
The BAP “Chimbote” is part of the program to build auxiliary logistics supply vessels designed to ensure logistical support for the operations and actions of the Peruvian Navy. The vessel will be able to transport cargo, fuel, water, provisions, vehicles, and personnel; provide support for naval operations; and resupply other vessels at sea.
It will also play an important role in emergencies and natural disasters, by facilitating the timely transfer of humanitarian aid to affected populations.
Another key component of current naval programs is technology transfer. Through a strategic alliance and co-production process with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, SIMA PERÚ is incorporating specialized knowledge in naval engineering, modular manufacturing, project management, quality control, systems integration, and advanced technical training.
This model allows the direct participation of Peruvian engineers, professionals, and technicians in highly complex technological processes, contributing to the retention of acquired knowledge in the country and strengthening national capabilities to face future naval programs.
In addition, these projects have a significant impact on national industry. The participation of Peruvian companies in the BALOG project fosters the development of local suppliers, promotes the creation of specialized jobs, and strengthens the value chain, thereby promoting greater opportunities for economic growth, technological innovation, and the development of a skilled workforce.
With the launching of the BAP “Chimbote” and the putting into the water of the BAP “Antofagasta”, SIMA PERÚ reaffirms its strategic role in the naval modernization and industrial development of the country, integrating technology, specialized talent and the participation of national suppliers to build new capabilities at the service of Peru.
