FMV

FMV has signed a contract with the supplier Freire Shipyard for the order of four new transport vessels. The new ships will strengthen marine sea-mobile logistics and will be delivered to the Swedish Armed Forces in 2030.

“The procurement of the transport vessels began in the summer of 2024 and in connection with the signing of the contract, we will enter the production phase. The project’s strategy is to buy a civilian ship and then supply weapons and the military command and communication systems at a separately procured militarization yard,” says Carl Johan Widmark, project manager at FMV.

Platforms for maritime logistics

The penetrating vessels are one of four new platform types that are part of the work FMV is now carrying out to support the Armed Forces in the development of marine sea-mobile logistics. The other platform types included are work vessels, port tugs and bunker vessels, where the work vessels are intended for torpedo recovery and underwater work. Equipment for the logistics supply of submarines will also be procured to strengthen naval sea-mobile logistics The new materiel will be continuously delivered to the naval base battalions.

The new capability that the cruise ships contribute means that the logistics of the navy’s ships become more flexible and less vulnerable.
