ARA “Bahía Agradable” aviso ship cast off yesterday from the “Comodoro de Marina Augusto Lasserre” military pier at the Ushuaia Naval Base, to begin the third stage of the Combined Antarctic Naval Patrol (PANC), which has been conducted uninterruptedly for more than two decades between the Argentine and Chilean navies.
The unit, under the command of Lieutenant Commander Leandro Ariel Bornancini, will assume its role as Antarctic Service Vessel next Friday, January 23, at which time it will relieve the Chilean Navy’s ATF-60 tugboat “Lientur”, beginning the “Charlie” stage of the Antarctic patrol.
The first stage of the PANC (Alfa) was executed between November and December 2025 by the ARA “Puerto Argentino” aviso ship, under the command of Lieutenant Commander Cintia Paola Maizares, the first woman to command an operational unit of the Argentine Navy in Antarctica.
The ship conducted more than 40 days of navigation in the Antarctic region, where it completed hydrographic work, maintenance of maritime signaling and diving operations.
Furthermore, within the framework of international cooperation, visits were made to various Antarctic bases of Argentina, Chile, South Korea, Uruguay, China, and Ecuador; actions that favor the exchange of experiences and strengthen the links between the countries with a presence on thea white continent.
During the voyage, the ship also provided support to the 2025/26 Antarctic Summer Campaign, under the Joint Antarctic Command, by transferring cargo of food and supplies destined for the icebreaker ARA “Almirante Irizar”.
With these actions, the Argentine Navy reaffirms its responsibility for navigational safety, support for scientific activity, and the national presence on the Antarctic continent.
