Last weekend the Mar del Plata Naval Base site was the scene of the celebrations for the 45th anniversary of the National Institute for Fisheries Research and Development (INIDEP).
The activities began on Friday with a ceremony headed by the Undersecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Carlos Liberman. In addition, other national and provincial authorities participated together with the Director of the Institute, Horacio Padín. Also present were the Commander of the Atlantic Naval Area, Rear Admiral Marcelo Luis Fernández; the Director of the “Comandante Luis Piedra Buena” National Fishing School, Captain Daniel Maldonado; and the Commander of the Hydrographic Vessels Group, Captain Daniel Jara.
The act began when the Music Band of the Atlantic Naval Area played the chords of the Argentine National Anthem and, later, the opening speeches were read; they also handed out plaques of recognition to different steps taken by former directors.
The event was held in the area adjacent to the north sector dock, where ships belonging to INIDEP have their usual berth. In the place, where tents with institutional exhibition material were also set up, references from the Port Consortium, the different Chambers, Companies and Unions of the fishing sector, the Argentine Naval Prefecture and other references from the productive and research activity gathered.
On Saturday and Sunday, the naval base opened its doors to the Mar del Plata community, which toured the institutional stands and visited the scientific research units BIPO «Mar Argentino», BIPO «Victor Angelescu» and the oceanographic vessel ARA «Austral». In the same sense, the public was able to participate in different exhibitions by industry leaders about marine species and different studies in the aquatic environment; as well as cooking classes with marine products as central ingredients.
The activities ended on Sunday afternoon after a musical show by the Atlantic Naval Area Music Band, where a varied repertoire covering different musical genres could be seen.
