The Western Mindanao Naval Command (WMNC) led and directed coordinated sealift operations through Naval Task Force 61 to deliver humanitarian assistance to residents affected by the recent fire incident in Lamion, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi.
Demonstrating its operational readiness and responsiveness, WMNC deployed BRP GENERAL MARIANO ALVAREZ (PS176), which departed Bagong Calarian, Zamboanga City on 14 February 2026 and arrived at Bongao Port on 15 February 2026. The vessel transported 802 boxes of kitchen kits, 440 boxes of food packs, and 697 jerry cans donated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region IX for immediate distribution to affected families.
Subsequently, BRP IVATAN (LC298) departed Bagong Calarian on 17 February 2026 carrying approximately 47,000 kilograms of additional relief supplies. The cargo included kitchen kits, sleeping kits, hygiene kits, family kits, family food packs, and mission-essential equipment, including a 6-wheeler truck preloaded with supplies, all sourced from DSWD Region IX to further augment assistance to fire victims in Tawi-Tawi.
These sealift operations were executed under the supervision of WMNC to ensure the safe, timely, and efficient transport of essential aid to geographically isolated and disaster-affected communities.
While steadfast in its mandate to maintain maritime security and keep Western Mindanao peaceful and in order, WMNC likewise remains committed to supporting the welfare and well-being of every Filipino within its Area of Responsibility. Beyond safeguarding the seas, the Command actively contributes to humanitarian assistance and disaster response efforts as part of the Whole-of-Government and Whole-of-Nation approach, working closely with partner agencies to deliver responsive and meaningful service to the people.
Through these efforts, WMNC reaffirms its dedication not only to protecting maritime interests but also to serving as a reliable partner in times of crisis, ensuring that no community is left behind.
