Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Oscar Austin (DDG 79) concluded a scheduled port visit to Koper, Slovenia, Oct. 27, 2026, during the country’s Sovereignty Day observance.
During the visit, Sailors assigned to the Oscar Austin hosted Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša, U.S. Ambassador to Slovenia Asel K. Roberts, Chief of Defense, Major General Boštjan Močnik and other Slovenian officials for a ship tour and professional engagement.
The visit provided an opportunity for U.S. and Slovenian personnel to strengthen professional relationships and recognize the enduring partnership between the United States and Slovenia, a NATO Ally.
“It was an honor for the Sailors of USS Oscar Austin to welcome our Slovenian hosts aboard the ship during this important national observance,” said Cmdr. Gerry Sellars, commanding officer of USS Oscar Austin. “We are grateful for the hospitality of the people of Koper and for the opportunity to join our Slovenian counterparts in celebrating as respectful guests and Allies. Visits such as this build mutual understanding and strengthen the relationships between our naval forces.”
Oscar Austin is assigned to U.S. 6th Fleet. The ship’s visit reflects the United States’ commitment to engagement with allies and partners and to strengthening professional relationships in the region.
