We would like to inform you that the United States Forces Japan has notified us that they will be conducting Field Carrier Landing Practice (FCLP) for aircraft from the USS George Washington on Iwo Jima as detailed below.
Please note that the schedule is current as of now and may be subject to change in the future.
- The US Carrier Based Landing Practice (FCLP) is an essential training for pilots of carrier based aircraft to obtain landing qualifications when the aircraft carrier George Washington departs, by landing on a land-based airfield runway as if it were the deck of an aircraft carrier. This training is extremely significant for the defense of our country and for strengthening the deterrent and response capabilities of the United States in the region.
- Training overview
- Training period: May 19th (Mon) to May 31st (Sat) 11:00 to 03:00
- Training aircraft: All fixed-wing aircraft types aboard the USS George Washington
(F-35C, FA-18E, FA-18F, EA-18G and E-2D)
- Furthermore, we have been informed that if the required training cannot be carried out on Iwo Jima due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, the training will be conducted at some or all of the following airfields. The Ministry of Defense will continue to request the U.S. side to conduct the training on Iwo Jima.
