Regarding the incident of “the left side of the Navy ship Dawu got entangled in the tow cable”, the Navy Command today (17) explained as follows:

1. The warship, Dawu, was conducting tugboat training in late February. During the recovery process of the towline being released, the towline became entangled due to improper ship operation. No one was injured.

2. During the docking inspection of the Dawu warship, it was found that the left main shaft was deformed and the reduction gear was worn. Taiwan Shipbuilding Corporation has placed orders for the above mentioned parts and arranged for repairs during the warranty project.

3. After investigation and analysis of environmental, human and mechanical factors by our headquarters, mechanical and environmental factors were ruled out and the main cause was the captain’s personal careless steering during the training on that day. The captain’s transfer has been reviewed.

Fourth, we will take this as an example to strengthen the professional improvement of captains of various types of ships, implement risk management, and enhance crisis awareness to maintain the safety of ship navigation.
