After the ceremony, the Lianjiang ship will perform its maiden voyage after becoming a military force and officially join the law enforcement force in the waters of the Penghu region.

The Coast Guard stated that the Lianjiang ship is the third new 1,000-ton frigate in the “Prospective Development Plan for the Construction of Coast Guard Ships” promoted by the government in line with the government’s “National Shipbuilding” policy and to safeguard sovereignty. It will be undertaken by the Taiwan Shipbuilding Corporation. It was built on November 6, 2013. The Keelung Factory of the Taiwan Shipping Company invited Vice President Zheng of the Executive Yuan to preside over the delivery ceremony. The ship is 98.5 meters long, 13.2 meters wide, with a gross tonnage of 2,437 tons and a maximum speed of 24 knots. , with a battery life of 6,000 miles, it is equipped with various new navigation equipment such as radar automatic mapping system and infrared thermal imager. It is also equipped with the Zhenhai rocket weapon system developed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a 20-cannon remote-controlled gun turret and a high-pressure water jet with a range of 120 meters. It is equipped with a helicopter flight deck and two guard boats with a speed of 36 knots, which can effectively and efficiently perform various life-saving and rescue tasks, fishery protection and smuggling and illegal immigration tasks in the Penghu waters.

Yang Chaoqing, deputy director of the Fleet Branch, said that Huang Congzheng, an outstanding young man from Penghu, served as the first simple captain of the Lianjiang ship. In order to maintain public security in the Penghu waters and ensure the rights and interests of fishermen, the Coast Guard deployed a total of 2 ships in the Penghu fleet (Pingtung ship and Lianjiang ship) and 10 boats (5 100-ton boats, 4 35-ton boats, and 1 CP boat) jointly guard the southern and northern waters of Penghu to effectively deter mainland fishing boats from crossing the border for fishing during the northeast monsoon and respond to the coast guard ships in recent years.
