USS Wasp Joins 7th Fleet

USS Wasp (LHD 1) entered U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations Jan. 6 after completing nearly two months of disaster relief efforts in the Caribbean Sea. Wasp departed Norfolk Aug. 30 to replace USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) in Sasebo, Japan, as the forward-deployed amphibious assault ship in region. USS Wasp to Support Relief for US Territories in Caribbean

U.S. Southern Command released the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) from support of post-Hurricane Maria relief operations in Dominica Sept. 29, and the ship will now join relief efforts for U.S. territories in the Caribbean. U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. 4th Fleet, through Joint Task Force-Leeward Islands (JTF-LI), was able to rapidly deploy Wasp to Dominica with critically-needed logistic capabilities.
