USS Lake Champlain (CG 57) returned home to Naval Base San Diego, May 9, after completing a four-month deployment. More than 350 crew members departed San Diego in January as part of the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group. USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112) returned to Pearl Harbor, April 18, after a three-month deployment to the Western Pacific with the Carl Vinson Strike Group. The Carl Vinson Strike Group completed a bilateral exercise in the Western Pacific with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), March 23. Aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) and guided-missile destroyer USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108) conducted combined operations with Japanese helicopter destroyer JS Ise (DDH 182) in the South China Sea and waters near Okinawa, Japan. USS Lake Champlain (CG 57) completed an ordnance onload at Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach, Jan. 12, in preparation for deployment to the Western Pacific. USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108) rescued three mariners from a sinking vessel, Nov. 18. At approximately 8:20 a.m., Nov. 18, Wayne E. Meyer responded to a distress call from Motor Vessel IKENA. Wayne E. Meyer, which was conducting routine operations off the coast of San Diego, immediately made best speed to render assistance to the distressed vessel. Wayne E.
