816 Squadron enhances RFS air attack capability

November 14, 2019 – The Royal Australian Navy’s MH-60R Seahawk helicopters’ superior Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) cameras and sensors have been working throughout the nights to support firefighting efforts across New South Wales. Each night, soon after dusk, the aircrew are joined by RFS specialists flying over fire grounds to assess and map current fire movements. OCEAN EXPLORER 2019 Showcases ASW Capability

March 2, 2019 – Anti-submarine warfare capabilities have been showcased during Exercise OCEAN EXPLORER 2019, which is underway in the West Australian Exercise Area. As part of OCEAN EXPLORER, a maritime task group transited from Sydney to Western Australia to join up with Royal Australian Air Force maritime patrol aircraft in order to locate and prosecute potential submarine threats. Key aviation milestones achieved onboard HMAS Adelaide

November 26, 2018 – The joint aviation capability embarked in HMAS Adelaide achieved key milestones while deployed to Papua New Guinea during Operation APEC 18 ASSIST. Eight helicopters from three squadrons embarked to provide logistics, aeromedical, maritime and shore security support as part of Joint Task Force 658. The helicopters included two MRH-90 Maritime Support Helicopters from Navy’s 808 Squadron, a Seahawk MH-60R ‘Romeo’ from Navy’s 816 Squadron and five MRH-90s from Army’s 5th Aviation Regiment.
