FMV, together with the Swedish Armed Forces and the supplier Saab, has conducted a test firing at sea with torpedo 47 installed on a combat boat 90. The result shows new possibilities for using the weapon system on smaller boats than it was originally developed for.

– We have carried out tests and trials with torpedo 47 installed on a combat boat 90. It has been a collaboration between the projects Amphibious Battalion 2030 and New Light Torpedo. We see this system solution as a good platform for testing or developing temporary installations of the weapon system, says Joakim Drakfors, project manager at FMV.

The test firings showed that this combination of weapon system and platform fits together very well. In particular, the results show that the Torpedo 47 weapon system works well even with smaller platforms than the system is traditionally developed for.

Ability in two dimensions

– What we have learned during these test firings we can take with us in the continued system work for solutions to achieve both effectiveness and increased mobility with a weapon system that is very potent, says Joakim Drakfors.

The results from the tests show possibilities for the future with a combination of torpedo m/47 and other attack systems to be able to coordinate action in two dimensions against an adversary both below the surface and above the water. Preparation of the results is being carried out between FMV and the Swedish Armed Forces to plan how the experiences will be handled.

Facts about torpedo 47

Torpedo system 47 builds on the torpedo systems that have been developed in Sweden over the years. Knowledge and experience from existing torpedo systems on surface ships and submarines are also reused.
