Hanwha Ocean is steadily shaping the future of the Republic of Korea’s surface ships. The keel laying ceremony for Future Frigate eXperimental (FFX) Batch-III Ship No. 5 took place on the 27th. This frigate is one of the final two vessels being constructed as part of the FFX Batch-III program awarded in 2023 to replace the aging corvettes and frigates of the Republic of Korea Navy (Republic of Korea Navy).
The keel laying for the final sixth ship is planned for July. Meanwhile, the 1st and 2nd ships of the next-generation FFX Batch-IV project—set to become smart frigates—are currently in the design phase, with construction set to begin in 2027 and 2028, respectively.
Alongside this, Hanwha Ocean unveiled our next-generation strategic surface ship late last year. This new platform is designed to meet the challenges of rapidly evolving future battlefield environments. More details can be found on Hanwha Ocean’s official YouTube channel below.
As the only company to participate in the full Korean Destroyer eXperimental (KDX) lineup—KDX-I, II, and III—we continue to solidify our position as Korea’s premier surface shipbuilder. Stay tuned for what’s next from the true “master of surface ships.”
