On Sunday, March 1, 2026, at 2 p.m., the frigate “Sachsen-Anhalt” under the command of frigate captain Daniel Läzer from the UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) foreign mission will enter its home port of Wilhelmshaven.

“In the past six months, my crew has once again proven its cordial and professional orientation on the UNIFIL mission,” said Commander Läzer.

The aim of the operation was to support the Lebanese armed forces in monitoring their maritime border and thus contribute to the stability of the region. In addition, the training of the Lebanese Navy was continuously accompanied and promoted.

In addition to the core mission, numerous multinational exercises shaped the mission. This cooperation not only strengthened the operational capabilities of all partners involved but also deepened international cooperation at sea.

On board, too, cohesion once again proved to be a reliable basis for a successful operation. “The operation was characterized by professionalism, commitment and strong team spirit,” the commander sums up. “Various internal events strengthened morale and camaraderie,” he continued.

In view of the personal challenges that such a commitment to private life entails, the joy of seeing the relatives again is all the greater. “We are all now looking forward to a short breather with our families,” frigate captain Läzer continues.

Summing up the mission, the commander is also looking ahead: In the further course of 2026, the “Sachsen-Anhalt” will take part in national and alliance-related exercises and prepare for upcoming missions.

The Prime Minister of Sachsen-Anhalt, Sven Schulze, will also be present when the frigate arrives. The Prime Minister makes up for the personal handover of the flag ribbon to the frigate “Sachsen-Anhalt”. The frigate was already in use on the day of the award last year and was therefore unable to participate in the ceremony.

The frigate “Sachsen-Anhalt” has covered about 32,000 nautical miles during this mission, which corresponds to about 59,000 km. The ship returns to Wilhelmshaven with 150 soldiers, including an embarked on-board operations team from Eckernförde and a group of dentists.
