The Admiral Kasatonov frigate held an artillery drill in the Barents Sea on Wednesday, the Russian Northern Fleet said in a statement.
“The exercise took place in an area of the Barents Sea closed for navigation. An A-192 artillery system hit maritime targets. Artillery and air defense systems also fired at simulated airborne targets,” the statement said.
The fleet’s press service noted that it was a scheduled exercise.
According to publicly available information, the Admiral Kasatonov is armed with Tsirkon hypersonic missiles (made by the Tactical Missiles Corporation) and Kalibr cruise missiles (made by Almaz-Antei). This is the second frigate built as part of Project 22350. Official information says that the lead frigate of the project, the Admiral Gorshkov, was the first carrier of Tsirkon missiles.
Admiral Kasatonov Commander Alexei Ryaboshtan said in December that the frigate’s rearming with Tsirkon hypersonic missiles ended in November 2023. “We finalized the rearming with Tsirkon in November this year, just ten days ago. Live missiles, four units, were loaded. There have been no firing drills just yet, but we are ready to accomplish our missions,” Ryaboshtan said.
