In the context of the bilateral military cooperation between Suriname and Brazil, two ships of the Brazilian Navy, the Iguatemi and the Bocaina, arrived in Suriname on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. The visit is part of the military exercise CARIBEX 2025.
CARIBEX is an annual maritime exercise in which Brazilian naval vessels visit several countries in the Caribbean. This visit underlines the good cooperation between the armies of Suriname and Brazil in the field of defense, training and regional security.
On the day of arrival, a joint exercise was carried out at sea. Various maritime tactics were practiced, including boarding exercises and sailing in formations. It is also the first time that Suriname participates in this exercise with the RSS Barracuda, which means an important step in strengthening the maritime capabilities of the Surinamese army.
The ships will depart from Suriname on Monday, April 28, 2025, concluding this important moment of military cooperation.
