As reported by a TASS correspondent, after the ship’s launch, fitting-out work will begin.
“The soundness of the design decisions and the proven technologies employed are confirmed by the extensive production of ships of this project, which confidently perform missions in all areas of the world’s oceans. The minesweepers have performed admirably in their assigned missions, demonstrating high seaworthiness and technical reliability,” Vice Admiral Igor Mukhametshin, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Navy for Armament, noted at the ceremony.
As a reminder, the keel-laying of the eleventh Project 12700 mine countermeasure ship, the Alexandrite, took place in June 2023. The ship is named in honor of Soviet Lieutenant Commander Dmitry Alekseevich Lysov (1918–1944), commander of the T-120 minesweeper.
Project 12700 Alexandrite ships were developed by the Almaz design bureau of the United Shipbuilding Corporation and are designed to combat modern naval mines, which they can detect both in the waters of sea areas and in the seabed.
The ships of this project feature a unique, world-largest hull made of monolithic fiberglass formed using vacuum infusion. This hull weighs less than a metal one, while significantly increasing its strength. It is also completely corrosion-resistant, and its service life is unlimited if properly maintained.
