The Portuguese Navy, through the daily monitoring of the Navy’s Maritime Operations Center and the commitment of naval units, carried out from the 20th until today, July 22nd, the accompaniment of a merchant ship of general cargo with a Russian flag and coming from Ekonomiya, Arkhangelsk, Russia, during its passage through the Exclusive Economic Zone of the continent.
The monitoring of the ship that has as destination the Mediterranean Sea, was carried out by the NRP D. Francisco de Almeida and the NRP Figueira da Foz in order to ensure an efficient surveillance of the activity in Portuguese waters.
The mission took place within the normal range, and the ship carried out the transit without having been detected any irregular activity.
The Navy will continue to fulfill its mission of surveillance of maritime spaces under national sovereignty or jurisdiction, accompanying the passage of these ships, in order to ensure the safeguarding and defense of national interests at sea.
