On 18th September 2023, 3 Royal Navy Wildcat helicopters and a Merlin helicopter lined up on HMS Queen Elizabeth's flight deck before departing shortly after each other, during the ship’s autumn deployment to the Baltic Region. 847 Squadron (Wildcats) were partaking in a Joint Personnel Recovery (JPR) exercise. The Merlin was conducting routine operational activity. HMS Queen Elizabeth will work with NATO and Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) nations - ten like-minded countries comprising Norway, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands and Sweden, dedicated to stability and security in the Baltic region.
