On 15 March 2023 the multi-purpose offshore patrol vessel Paolo Thaon di Revel joined the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 international arrangement (SNMG2), naval immediate reaction force – Standing Naval Forces – of NATO by taking over from frigate Margottini, engaged in the same operational activity since last January.
Paolo Thaon di Revel will also take part in Operation Noble Shield, a presence, surveillance and deterrence activity for maintaining the necessary level of maritime security and an adequate “Maritime Situational Awareness” (MSA) in the strategic area of the Mediterranean Central-Eastern, through the deployment of a multinational maritime device.
