A few months after the official launch in November 2025, the German Navy is deployed worldwide with the new P-8A Poseidon maritime reconnaissance aircraft. In February and March 2026, for example, the Indo-Pacific Deployment 2026 (IPD 2026) was successfully carried out and almost simultaneously the NATO maneuver Dynamic Manta was participated. The NATO exercise focused on submarine hunting and maritime warfare.
The successful implementation of IPD 2026 underlines the high professionalism of crews, technical and logistics personnel who implemented this complex relocation over long distances as well as ensuring operational readiness abroad. This year, the German Navy set a focused accent with a clear mission and a clear message: presence, professionalism and partnership. Germany can deploy modern maritime capabilities worldwide in the short term and to assume responsibility within the Alliance.
By participating in Dynamic Manta, the German Navy was able to demonstrate cooperation with allies under realistic exercise conditions. In particular, the Poseidon demonstrated its capabilities in the field of anti-submarine warfare, long-range maritime surveillance and networked operations.
With the P-8A Poseidon, the Navy has a modern aircraft for maritime reconnaissance and submarine hunting. The international deployment capability, which has now been successfully demonstrated, represents a decisive step on the way to full operational readiness and sustainably strengthens the German and joint maritime security architecture.
