The Brazilian Navy (MB) is participating in Operation “Obangame Express 2025”, a multinational maritime security exercise that brings together navies from Africa, Europe, and the Americas. The operation aims to strengthen international cooperation, increase interoperability and increase the capacity to respond to transnational crimes at sea.

Representing Brazil, the Frigate “Defensora” docked at the Port of Praia, capital of Cape Verde, where the land phase of the operation was carried out. During this period, the ship received visits from foreign military personnel, university students and students from local schools, in an agenda that promoted cultural exchange and closer ties between the participants.

The operation aims to strengthen international cooperation, increase levels of interoperability and capacity to respond to transnational crimes at sea.

Representing Brazil, the Frigate “Defensora” docked at the Port of Praia, capital of Cape Verde, where the land phase of the operation was carried out. During this period, the ship received visits from foreign military personnel, university students and students from local schools, in an agenda that promoted cultural exchange and closer ties between the participants of the exercise.

Since the beginning of the operation, on May 5th, operational training has been conducted with the Cape Verdean Navy, focusing on boarding techniques, vessel inspection, organization of Visiting and Inspection Groups, naval communications, and coordination of combined actions.

The at-sea phase of the “Obangame Express 2025” began on May 9th with practical exercises among the participating navies. The frigate “Defensora” is used in patrols, maritime interdiction actions, boarding suspicious vessels, and command and control missions, contributing to the strengthening of multinational operational capacity. The activities aim to level procedures and qualify the joint use of means to confront threats such as piracy, drug trafficking, human trafficking, smuggling, and illegal fishing in the waters of the Gulf of Guinea.
